Meet Megan

  • Born in: 🌺 Kailua, Hawai`i
  • Now Resides in: 🌄 Aurora, Colorado
  • Birthday: 🎂 August 12
  • Sign: ♌ Leo

Megan was born and raised in Kailua on O’ahu, Hawai’i. At age 3, after a brief and unsuccessful ambition to be a dinosaur when she grew up, she decided she wanted to be a chef, and never looked back. She graduated from the Culinary Institute of the Pacific, and has worked in almost every food-related role under the sun.

She met the love of her life, Geoff, playing shows with their respective bands alongside each other in the music scene. They got married and relocated to Denver, Colorado, in 2011. She formed her first business, Bumble Tea, in 2014 and opened their storefront in 2019. Since its close during Covid, Megan has been patiently crafting plans for a relaunch.

Megan and Geoff have two amazing kiddos, Daphne and Matilda, and spend their free time together either enjoying the outdoors in any way they can, or baking, crafting and making music.

Fun Facts

  • 🎤 She’s fronted three bands
  • 🦕 She once helped excavate a dinosaur fossil

⭐️ You Glow Girl, Mad Libs Edition.

I need more adventures in my life.

And less routine.

RN, I’m LOVING moss art, Chappell Roan, lilikoi kombucha, and my disco banana.

This year, I’m hoping to figure myself out a little more personally, artistically, and creatively.

Advice I’d give to my 10-year-old self: Make your ambitions loud as hell.

Advice I’d give to a bestie who’s going through a rough patch: This will make such an inspiring story someday, but for now, it’s ok if the story doesn’t feel like it’s yours.

My favorite way to unwind is hiking, swimming, or having a cozy cup of tea in silence if the weather is wet.

Ask me about my kids.

To me, “Like a Mother” signifies going forward with unquestioning resilience.

This year, my focus is on rebranding and rebuilding my business after a long hiatus.

In a world of kites, be a comet.

The Ocean is healing. ☀️🧴

When I’m feeling stuck, I go for a walk somewhere new or strike up a conversation with a stranger.

You’d be surprised to learn I’ll be running for office.

My mantra for life: Everything in the universe is perfect, including my desire to improve it.

What’s one lesson you learned the hard way while operating your own business? Hire someone to help with the things that you struggle with. You don’t have to do everything yourself.

What’s your favorite ingredient, and why can’t you live without it? Salt! 100% salt. It elevates everything from vegetables to chocolate, and I see it as the neon highlighter to everything I make. It’s magic.

How does your story influence your culinary creations?  I think my history has bred adaptability in me, which lets me be more creative, and consider various elements of harmony rather than box myself into presumed restrictions.

How has growing up in Hawai’i influenced the way you cook? Hawai`i is such a melting pot of cultures, ethnicities, and foods. Growing up in such a collaborative environment has made me a more adventurous eater, and subsequently a more experimental culinarian.

Do you have a simple recipe, or quick tips for incorporating more plants into your diet, or any other little snackable content snippets to share? I’m definitely always looking for new ways to incorporate more plants. I’m really big on tea and smoothies, which are both easy avenues for sneaking nutrients in. I love blending up spinach and dandelion in my smoothies, and regularly nerd out over uncommon berries and leaves and research their nutritional properties and how they work in conjunction with other ingredients in the human body. It’s such a wild and fun form of science!

Bonus Tip: I’d also advise taking yourself on little food field trips. This helps me especially when I feel like I’m in a rut. I’ll specifically choose a specialty grocer that sells from an unfamiliar region, and pick out 2 or 3 items I’ve never used before. Then I’ll have an unbiased, blind tasting of them, and try to make something with them before I even read up on what they are, or their traditionally-intended use.
